How to edit UGC ads online, in your browser

Last updated November 5, 2026 · By the Mashcut team

Not every shoot ends up on a phone. Footage from a camera, a screen recording or a client's files usually lands on a computer, and that's where a lot of UGC ads get finished. Mashcut's web app, at app.usemashcut.com (opens in a new tab), cuts that footage into a set of ads in your browser, with the same account as the iPhone app.

The short version

  • Open app.usemashcut.com (opens in a new tab) on a Mac or PC and sign in with Apple, Google or email. There's nothing to install.
  • Upload your footage, choose Auto Edit or Mix & Match, and choose how many ads you want.
  • Mashcut cuts the ums and pauses, keeps one take of each repeated line and captions your words, on its servers.
  • Fix captions and cuts in a timeline editor, then download each ad.
  • Your projects and credits are the same on the web and in the iPhone app.

01Can you edit UGC ads online without installing anything?

Yes. Mashcut's web app runs in your browser at app.usemashcut.com (opens in a new tab). Sign in with Apple, Google or your email, and you see every project you've made, on the phone or on the web. The editing itself happens on Mashcut's servers, so a long upload is the slowest part, not your computer.

02How do you make a set of ads in the browser?

  1. Start a new set. Choose how Mashcut cuts your footage: Auto Edit turns one take into a set of ads, and Mix & Match pairs the hooks you filmed with your demo.
  2. Upload your footage. Drop the files on the page or pick them from your computer. Each clip can be up to 3 minutes, with up to 10 minutes of footage per set.
  3. Choose how many ads. In Mix & Match, each ad opens with a different hook, up to 5 hooks per set.
  4. Let Mashcut cut. It keeps one take of each line you repeated, cuts the ums and pauses, and adds captions from your words.

Testing hooks is the point of a set. TikTok's split testing guide (opens in a new tab) lists video hooks, the opening 2–3 seconds, as a creative variable, so a set gives you one ad per opener to test against the same demo.

03What can you change in the web editor?

Open any ad in the editor to correct what the cut got wrong. It has a timeline, undo and keyboard shortcuts.

  • Captions: change the words, and set their size, colour, place, capitalization and punctuation, how many words each caption shows, and whether each word lights up as it's spoken.
  • Cuts: select captions or clips on the timeline and remove them, speech and video together.
  • Takes: swap a part for another take Mashcut already checked fits that spot.
  • On-screen text: edit or hide the title.

04How do you export the finished ads?

Each ad downloads as a 9:16 MP4 at 1080×1920, ready to upload to TikTok, Reels, Shorts or your ad manager. Exporting doesn't use a credit, even again after an edit.

05Should you use the web app or the iPhone app?

Use whichever is where your footage is. Both make the same ads with the same account.

06Is Mashcut an AI video editor?

Yes, in the editing sense. Mashcut transcribes what you said to choose the takes, find the pauses and write the captions. It never makes footage, voices or music: every frame comes from your clips, and every caption from your words.

07Frequently asked questions

Does Mashcut work on a Mac or a Windows PC?

Yes. The web app runs in your browser on either. There's nothing to download.

Do I need the iPhone app to use the web app?

No. Sign in on the web with Apple, Google or email. If you also use the iPhone app, it's the same account, with the same projects and credits.

Is the online editor free?

New subscribers get a 3-day free trial. After that, making ads needs a Creator or Pro plan.

Can I record video in the web app?

No. Upload footage you've already filmed, or film with the iPhone app.

Your next hook test starts with one shoot

Film your hooks, add your demo and get up to 5 ads back. Try it free for 3 days.
